Olimpia vs Defensor Sporting
Defensores del Chaco, Asuncion
(1-0) 2-0 – Juan Carlos Ferreyra; Eduardo Aranda
No drama, no fuss – Olimpia were professional in their disposal of Defensor Sporting as they secured passage to Group 7 of the Copa Libertadores where they join Tata Martino’s Newell’s, Universidad de Chile and the Venezuelans Deportivo Lara.
They were in control during the first half and the nerves were settled after 35 minutes when Tomas Guzman whipped in a cross from deep on the left-hand-side and it was headed home by Tanque Ferreyra who clearly hasn’t lost his eye for goal. In the second half the tie was sealed by a simply wonderful strike from Eduardo Aranda – 30 yards out full of swerve and dip it left the goalkeeper stranded.
Ever Almeida will be pleased with his side’s showing especially in midfield where Richard Ortiz and Eduardo Aranda worked well together and Tomas Guzman looks a quality signing.
