This weekend’s game include predictions, short previews AND selected odds via Betfair for some of the games! Remember all kick offs are local time with Paraguay currently 3 hours behind GMT. If you want to watch these games abroad you can investigate further here.
Rubio Ñu vs Guaraní
Estadio La Arboleda
Guaraní have lost key striker Federico Santander (transfer to Racing) which will have a big affect on their goalscoring capabilities. Rubio Ñu started the season with a hard fought away win and that will give confidence but they remain the weaker side in terms of quality on the field. It is Guaraní’s game for the taking if they continue their good form.
SELECTED ODDS: Rubio Ñu win 2.42, Draw 2.82, Guaraní win 2.44
BEST BET: Market isn’t developed yet but expect goals, despite the prediction Over 2.5 isn’t out of the question with the offensive power on show
Sp. Carapeguá vs Cerro Porteño
Estadio Juan C. Pettengill
Although this is a home fixture for Carapeguá they play Cerro Porteño at a neutral venue, their stadium has not met APF (Paraguay FA) demands. Cerro Porteño are in turmoil, last week’s defeat and now maverick forward Jonathan Fabbro has refused to play (citing a stomach problem) and could be angling for a transfer. Cerro’s two new signings (Salcedo and Beltrán) are not expected to feature, while Fidencio Oviedo is suspended. However Carapeguá are without their main striker Ever Barrientos (suspended) and ultimately the Cerro are a far superior team and should win.
SELECTED ODDS: Carapeguá win 4.6, Draw 3.25, Cerro Porteño win 1.71,
BEST BET: If you can get a shade closer to evens get on an away win. Jump on.
Nacional vs Tacuary
Estadio Arsenio Erico
Nacional played in the Copa Libertadores this week so are likely to field a mix of reserves and first teamers – their problem will be scoring goals, Tacuary are a very well organised team defensively. Going forward Tacuary were very disappointing last week and there was nobody in midfield to link with their strikers, Nacional will win if they can manage to find a goal.
Independiente CG vs Sol de América
Estadio La Arboleda
The game is at a neutral venue. Sol de America were fantastic in their opening game and will score goals with their pacey attacking line up of Prono and Ortigoza (both called up to the casera squad) but there are questions over their defensive capabilities. If Independiente take risks and find space behind the slow Sol defence they may find a result. Expect goals either way.
Cerro Porteño PF vs Olimpia
Estadio Antonio Oddone
Another game on neutral venue but for Olimpia (who return from Ecuador on Friday) it is a long trip (300 km) to Ciudad del Este. For that reason they will probably play a B-team but there is lots of strength in that side. Cerro Porteño PF were very poor against Sol de América but teams often raise their game against Olimpia (or Cerro Porteño) so they will do their best to take the game to their opponents. Hard to see past an away win in this one.
SELECTED ODDS: Market not developed yet – check back Sunday morning!
BEST BET: If you can get both teams to score at decent odds, Olimpia will be without Orteman in midfield and still adapting to three at the back
Libertad vs Sportivo Luqueño
Estadio Dr. Nicolas Leoz
Libertad played Copa Libertadores on Wednesday and return to action in that tournament next week too (away in Uruguay), but with their strong squad even the reserve team will be good enough to beat Luque. Sportivo Luqueño will be a different side to last week’s without the support of their home fans and the motiviation of playing a derby. A comfortable home win by Paraguay’s strongest side at the moment.
