Olimpia vs Lanús
Estadio Nicolas Leoz
23/02/12, 19.30 hs (22.30 hs GMT)
Olimpia go into their second group game already needing to win it to avoid an early exit from the competition they have won previously on three occassions. The defeat away to Emelec and the tough trips that await the team in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro mean they must take maximum points from their home games (even if they are playing in Libertad’s stadium!).
The good news is that Sergio Orteman is back, he has been missed in the last two league games (suspended) that Olimpia have drawn and will be needed to support teenager Fabio Caballero in stemming Lanús attacks. One question mark over their home side is their width, or lack of it, early in the season playing with wing backs they looked so comfortable going forward but now with Hobecker and Marín naturally fairly central it has made Olimpia easier to defend against. One goal in three games tells its own story.
There is no doubt the game will be balanced, the sides look pretty similar on paper and Olimpia have a good record against Argentinian teams at home, they have beaten Boca Juniors four times on Guaraní soil. They say in these parts that El Decano have that ‘garra’ in the Copa and a habit of getting a result when they need it. Tonight Gerardo Pelusso’s side really do need a victory and with home advantage they should just nick it.
SELECTED ODDS: Olimpia win 3, Draw 3.25, Lanús win 2.76; Over 2.5 goals 2.44; 2-1 scoreline 13,
BEST BET: If anything the goals market is a bit long, Lanús like to attack, Olimpia can catch them on break and/or be caught out defensively themselves, go for Overs as result is hard to call.
