Paraguay Abroad Special: Nery Cardozo report card

Yesterday Nery Cardozo posted cryptically on his facebook wall “Tomorrow I travel to Europe…I hope it is what God wants and that everything goes well”. Today his club Rubio Ñu confirmed that the striker’s destination is Norway, he will join Viking FK on loan the length still undetermined in a deal thought to be brokered by club president Ruben Ruiz Diaz personally. Paraguay Football has done a brief report card on the 22-year-old striker who is thought to be the first ever Paraguayan to play in Norway.

Name: Nery Cardozo

D.o.b: 26 May 1989

Position: Striker

Height: 1.80 metres

Weight: 77 kilos

Former Clubs: Rubio Ñu

Playing style

A product of Rubio Ñu’s excellent youth system Cardozo is a strong striker with a good eye for goal and ability to score with both feet. He has a precise shot from distance which is his trademark but often scores with his head due to his strength and good aerial awareness. Very good close control. Cardozo can play as a solitary striker and has the ability to hold up the ball. Below his most recent goal against Olimpia (the first goal) and you can check some previous goals here and here.

Character

Although the striker was sent off in the previous game for an elbow it has been widely accepted, by his opponent too, that it was accidental. In general Cardozo has had no disciplinary problems.
