Paraguay Abroad: Stellar performances in Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Bolivia

What a positive weekend for the Paraguayans abroad, while established stars such as Roque Santa Cruz, Lucas Barrios, Antolín Alcaraz and Marcelo Estigarribia didn’t taste victory it was left to some of our other 80 pioneers to shine. Lorenzo Melgarejo may have been on the losing side but he is hitting the headlines in Portugal thanks to another impressive display, over in Argentina Nestor Ortigoza scored a crucial penalty for San Lorenzo as they shake off relegation fears. Another out of favour (with Chiqui at least) albirroja Auerliano Torres got his name on the scoresheet in Mexico while ex-Olimpia striker Pablo Escobar netted in Bolivia. Over in Colombia, Once Caldas forward Jorge Nuñez added one to his tally. Arguably the stars of the week were in Chile, Cristian Bogado bagged a brace for Deportes Iquique, David Portillo scored the only goal of the game for Antofagasta while Roberto ‘Bufalo’ Ovelar grabed a last minute winner for Universidad Católica. Below their individual efforts, first a goals montage here.
