Week four Wrap: Guaraní go three points clear with lightning strike

Following Cerro Porteño’s draw on Saturday, the two televised games on Sunday included a thrilling 2-2 draw in the black and white clásico between Olimpia and Libertad and a top of the table clash between Guaraní and Luque. It was the aborigen who came out on top and are now sole leaders of the 2012 Clausura.

Guaraní vs Luque

(1-0) 1-0 – López

Dante López’s goal after just 14 seconds was enough to win the game for Guaraní in front of their home supporters and put them top of the league ladder by three points. Their last league title was the 2010 Apertura

The defeat leaves Luque in the relegation zone but they are in second place in the Clausura standings.


Olimpia vs Libertad

(2-2) 2-2 – Fredy Bareiro, Ortiz; Nuñez, Velázquez

A thrilling first half saw the sides share out four goals with Olimpia taking the lead twice only to be pegged back. Arnaldo Castorino was superb in the build up to the first goal for Fredy Bareiro who used to play for the Gumarelo. Bareiro turned provider for the second Olimpia goal, a Richard Ortiz header. José Ariel Nuñez finished well for Libertad’s opener, latching onto a Nelson Romero through ball while Pablo Velázquez’s frst of the season was turned in after a rebound. In the second half Libertad saw Joe Bizera sent off, their third defender to see red in the last two games.

Both Libertad and Olimpia have now drawn their previous three games.


Carapeguá vs Cerro Porteño

Roberto Nanni scored in consecutive games, what at first glance looks like a ‘golazo’ but he later conceded that it was a mishit cross.

Jorge ‘Piojo’ Ayala grabbed the equaliser, he is the only member of El Potro to have scored in the Estadio Muncipal de Carapeguá but the goals aren’t enough, his side remain destined for relegation.


Other results: Rubio Ñu continued their winless run with a 0-0 draw at home to Cerro de Franco, Sol de América were unable to overcome Independiente at home as they looked to capitalise on their win over Cerro Porteño last week. In the Roberto Bettega Nacional continued their excellent record against Tacuary, the 1-0 win is their 7th in 8 games there.
