The Copa Ciudad de Arequipa has finished with Paraguay the undisputed champions, they made it three wins from three games thanks to a 2-1 victory over Colombia in their final match.
Cerro Porteño’s Miguel Almirón opened the scoring, he has a good record in Perú having scored for the Cerro Porteño U20s in the Copa Libertadores earlier in the year. Colombia equalised but just like the previous game against Venezuela the albirroja showed the right mental character to find a winner. It came from Luque’s talented left-footer Marcelo Ferreira who had come on as a substitute for topscorer Cecilio Dominguez, proving the strength and depth of this group of players.
This tournament win will put Paraguay as one of the favourites to qualify for the 2013 U20s World Cup in Turkey next June, the South American qualifiers take place in Argentina in January.
Paraguay XI: Miguel Castro; Miller Marecos, Gustavo Gómez, Junior Alonso, Teodoro Paredes, Ángel Lucena (74′ William Cuevas), Rubén Monges, Iván Ramírez (74’ Diego Escobar), Miguel Almirón (63′ Marcelo Montiel), Mauro Caballero (63′ Juan Villamayor), Cecilio Domínguez (54’ Marcelo Ferreira)
