Cerro Porteño vs Real Garcilaso
La Olla, Asunción
21/02/2013; 19:15 (22:15 GMT)
TV: Fox Sports (Paraguay); ESPN (UK)
The pressure will be on in La Olla tonight with Cerro fans demanding a performance and a victory from the home side who have been far from impressive so far in 2013. They face the Peruvian vice-champions who have travel down from the former Inca capital of Cuzco and are participating in their first ever Copa Libertadores less than four years after their foundation in 2009.
Fossati rested most of the side that lost to Tolima in a game where they failed to keep the ball and were generally very sloppy. To try and improve that he has restored the midfield trio that was so successful last year with Oviedo and Dos Santos playing centrally (the captain was stuck out on the left last week) behind Jonathan Fabbro assuming he gets over his stomach upset. Up front both Santiago Salcedo and Roberto Nanni possess the experience and strength to trouble the Peruvians.
Real Garcilaso are from Peru’s cultural heartland but they have a strong Paraguayan presence with ex-Luque defender Rolando Bogado in defence, Oscar Gamarra in midefield and strikers Fabio ‘Pitu’ Ramos and Victor ‘Cachi’ Ferreira (who began his career at Cerro Porteño). I haven’t watched them extensively in the past but we can expect in their first ever continental away game that they will be more defensive-minded than usual.
Cerro Porteño XI (probable): Diego Barreto, Luis Cardozo, Williams Martinez, Gonzalo Viera; Carlos Bonet, Fidencio Oviedo, Julio Dos Santos, Paul Ambrosi; JonathanFabbro, Santiago Salcedo, Roberto Nanni
Real Garcilaso XI (possible): Diego Carranza; Joel Herrera, Luis Guadalupe, Rolando Bogado, Hugo Angeles; Oscar Gamarra, Edwin Retamoso, Christian Vildoso, Alfredo Ramua; Mauricio Montes, Victor Ferreira
Prediction: 3-0 (If Fabbro plays)
Selected Odds: Cerro win 1.37, Draw 5, Garcilaso win 12.0, 3-0 win 10.0, Over 2.5 goals 1.96
Best Bet: With the home win heavy odds on I think I’ll go for Over 2.5 tonight
Cerro’s previous game against Peruvian opposition was in March 2002, they beat Alianza 2-0 at home
