Copa Libertadores 2013: Libertad march on with another impressive win

Libertad vs Palmeiras
Estadio Nicolas Leóz
(1-0) 2-0
– Pablo Velazquez, Pedro Benítez

Libertad maintained their 100% start to this year’s Copa Libertadores campaign with their second victory that also preserves their unbeaten record at the Nicolas Leóz stadium in this tournament. The first goal came early on from Pablo Velazquez who joins Sergio Aquino and Rodolfo Gamarra as the all-time-topscorer in the competition for the Gumarelo with seven goals. His header was thanks to an excellent piece of work from strike partner José Ariel Nuñez who had pulled wide and picked out Velazquez with a pinpoint cross.

Libertad controlled the game and although Palmeiras created chances, it was no surprise when the lead was doubled in the second half, another header this time from Pedro Benítez who had joined the attack for the corner that resulted in the goal.

Two wins, two cleansheets, things are looking good for Ruben Israel’s side who aim to qualify from the group stages for the fifth consecutive year.
