Olimpia vs Deportivo Lara
Estadio Metropolitano, Barquisimeto
13/03/2013; 19:45 (22:45 GMT)
TV: Fox Sports 2 (Latin America); ESPN (UK)
Group 7 has become arguably one of the most open groups in this year’s Copa Libertadores and following Newell’s win in Santiago last night aginst Universidad de Chile either of tonight’s teams will surge to the top of the table with a win. Olimpia will be in Barquisimeto for the first time and hoping to erase the bad memories of last week when they threw away a two-goal lead.
El Decano have traveled to Venezuela following a heavy defeat against Nacional despite playing almost their strongest side. Herminio Miranda returns to defence and fortunately the ‘foreigners limit’ doesn’t apply in the Copa Libertadores so all four Uruguayans are expected to start with Juan Carlos Ferreyra (Argentina) also playing up front. The inclusion of Alejandro Silva on the flank will be pivotal, he is good defensively but his ability going forward will keep Lara’s midfield on their toes. The Paraguayans are currently four games without a win in all competitions, if they fail to record a victory tonight it will be their worst run since Halloween 2010 (Six games without a win).
Deportivo Lara didn’t play over the weekend due to the death of Hugo Chavez (domestic football was suspended) and we saw last night how that rest benefited Caracas, they pulled off a wonderful result against Grêmio, beating them 2-1. It will be interesting to see how they play from the start in this game, I suspect they will have a go at Olimpia which seemed to work well in the final 20 minutes of the previous match.
Deportivo Lara XI (probable): Alan Liebeskind; Luis Colmenares, Marcelo Maidana, José Rey; Yuber Mosquera, Marlon Fernandez, Miguel Mea Vitali, Bladimir Morales; Jesus Gomez; Rafael Castellin, Zamir Valoyes
Olimpia XI (probable): Martín Silva; Salustiano Candia, Herminio Miranda, Enrique Meza; Alejandro Silva, Eduardo Aranda, Richard Ortiz, Sebastián Ariosa; Juan Manuel Salgueiro; Fredy Bareiro, Juan Carlos Ferreyra.
Selected Odds: Deportivo Lara win 2.46, Draw 3.35, Olimpia win 3.2, 1-2 win 13.0, Over 2.5 goals 2.32
