Nacional vs General Díaz
Defensores del Chaco, Asunción
23/03/2013; 19:00 (22:00 GMT)
TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)
Amid all the international games there is still some league football this week in Paraguay and Saturday throws up a tasty clash between second and first respectively in the Defensores del Chaco. So far General Díaz have won all of their five games in the Primera and have looked so solid in defence, and not unfazed by bigger rivals beating Olimpia and Guaraní already. Nacional have continued from last year where they were challenging for the title right up until the end, a strong squad of players especially in midfield that helps provide a hefty share of goals.
The Academia can’t count on the services of Silvio Torales who is technically in the Paraguay squad even if he didn’t travel to Montevideo. However Ricardo ‘Tom’ Ortiz is likely to be one of three creative forces in the middle along with Gustavo Cristaldo and Marcos Melgarejo, the latter with two goals to his name already. Julian Benítez is club topscorer with three goals all coming in separate games.
General Díaz are supremely competitive and full of energy that allows them to work so hard without the ball, they have conceded just once this year. The two most creative players are Cristian Sosa in central midfield and Antonio Bareiro on the flanks, although their best source of a goal is probably a set piece. That is by no means a slur on the side, the strategy has worked perfectly so far, which is why they are league leaders.
Best Bet:Nacional have kept cleansheets in their previous three games, General Díaz in the last four…Under 2.5 goals for me
Nacional XI (probable): Ignacio Don; Ramón Coronel, Raúl Piris, Leandro Cáceres, David Mendoza; Gustavo Cristaldo, Marcos Riveros, Ricardo ‘Tom’ Ortiz, Marcos Melgarejo; Ramón Cardozo, Julian Benítez
General Díaz XI (probabl): Aristides Florentín; Rolando Sanabria, Jorge Cáceres, Lidio Benitez, Marcos Gamarra; Antonio Bareiro, Cristian Sosa, Carlos Vera Segovia, Diego Vera; Gabriel Avalos, Daniel Ferreira
Rubio Ñu vs Guaraní
Estadio Arboleda, Asunción
22/03/2013; 16:50 (19:50 GMT)
Rubio Ñu struggling greatly and have found themselves in the relegation zone (although there is plenty of time for that to change), the problem is at the back, just one cleansheet which incidentally was their only win. Guaraní have looked good in general and have won their two away games so far. The loss to General Díaz must have been frustrating because they had plenty of chances to score, barring a miracle game from Jorge Chena in the albiverde net it should be another away win.
Rubio Ñu XI (probable): Jorge Chena; Gustavo Gimenez, Oscar Ayala, Fabian Balbuena, Nestor Ruiz; Osvaldo Hobecker, Angel Lucena, Robert Piris da Motta, Domingo Salcedo; Hugo Lusardi, Nery Cardozo
Guaraní XI (probable): Alfredo Aguilar; Eduardo Filippini, Julio Cesar Caceres, Luis Cabral, Edgar Aranda; Luis de la Cruz, Marcelo Palau, Sergio Orteman, Ivan Gonzalez Ferreira; Dante Lopez, Rodrigo Teixeira
