Sportivo Carapeguá vs Olimpia

TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)

Despite having three players involved with the national team, Olimpia have to travel down Ruta 1 to Carapeguá today to face El Potro who are currently just one point behind their more illustrious rivals in the Apertura standings. Following the change of clocks and Paraguay now officially on ‘winter time’ the game is set to kick off at 4pm in temperatures of just over 30c.

Carapeguá’s last victory in the Municipal was a 4-1 thumping of Olimpia on the final day of the Clausura season, since then they’ve drawn twice but it is nothing to be sniffed at with the results coming against Cerro Porteño and Libertad. Celso Ayala is proving to be a good manager, he is a good motivator and today he has player’s back from injury such as Jorge Britez in midfield. Veteran full back Julio Irrazabal is the man to keep an eye on today, he won the league with Cerro Porteño in 2009 and loves nothing more than to get one over on Olimpia.

Olimpia have blown hot and cold this year, they were excellent against Deportivo Lara winning 5-1 but in the league they have struggled to score currently averaging 0.6 goals per game, the second worst record in the Apertura. Almeida has struggled to find a place for all his foreigners although that has been alleviated with both Silvas (Martin and Alejandro) in the Uruguay squad. Richard Ortiz is also on international duty with Paraguay. Wilson Pittoni is set to start following that strong display in Venezuela.

Prediction: 1-1

Best Bet: BTTS with both sides conceding more than a goal a game, Olimpia’s goalscoring troubles seem to be behind them and Fredy Bareiro is always good for a goal against weaker sides

Carapeguá XI (probable): Roque Cardozo; Julio Irrazabal, Rubén Maldonado, Robert Aldama, Celso Gonzalez Ferreira; Pedro Chavez, Jorge Britez, Michel Romero, Diego Godoy; David Pereira, Arnulfo Colmán

Olimpia XI (probable): Victor Centurión; Salustiano Candia, Julio Manzur, Herminio Miranda; Jorge Báez, Wilson Pittoni, Eduardo Aranda, Alberto Contrera, Sebastián Ariosa; Juan Manuel Salgueiro; Fredy Bareiro

Cerro de Franco vs Deportivo Capiatá
Estadio Cerro de Franco, Presidente Franco
24/03/2013; 16:00 (20:00 GMT)

Capiatá are on a high having recorded an historic win against Cerro Porteño in La Olla, today they face Cerro’i hoping for another win under Mario Jacquet. Cerro de Franco have been doing well in front of goal, averaging 2 per game although they are yet to keep a cleansheet. This should be a hard-fought game but I think home advantage will give Cerro de Franco the edge.

Prediction: 2-1
