2013 Apertura Week 12: Cerro vs Sol preview

Cerro Porteño vs Sol de América
La Olla, Asunción
04/05/2013; 18:00 (23:00 BST)
TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)

Once again it is pouring with rain as these two meet, Sol earned a thrilling victory in the meeting earlier this year and are riding high having recently beaten Olimpia. Cerro Porteño have taken one point from the previous two matches and unpaid bonuses has caused the players to protest – they will play today but they didn’t go to the team hotel last night, instead going their separate ways to their houses.

The major surprise is the omission of Santiago Salcedo (not even on the bench) for tactical reasons with Guillermo Beltrán finding a spot in the starting line-up. With Balbuena banned for two matches the change in defence is Victor Hugo Mareco who makes a rare start. The ‘holy trinity’ of Oviedo, Dos Santos and Fabbro has been restored which is the best news for the azulgrana.

Sol de América will be confident and one player on cloud nine is David Mendieta, called up by Gerardo Pelusso to the Paraguay training camp next week (for domestic-based players). Cecilio Dominguez scored int eh last game and will play again with his ‘swimming cap’ apt for tonight’s rainy weather. A rare start is handed to Diego Chamorro, a talented player with a wonderful lef foot, worth watching out for him from set pieces.

Prediction: 1-1

Best Bet: Both Teams To Score is the way to go with Sol playing well and capable of breaking down this Cerro defence
