Clausura 2013 Week 2: Nacional vs Sol de América

Nacional vs Sol de América
Defensores del Chaco, Asunción

TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)

Nacional have a tough trip to La Paz next week so they are resting players for this league clash with Sol de América. The visitors suffered a surprise loss in their opener against Capiatá having won 3 of their final 4 games of the Apertura under new coach Gualberto Jara. Nacional drew against Rubio Ñu in their Clausura debut and haven’t won for two months, six games and counting.

Morínigo has confirmed he’ll play a weaker team, the Copa Sudamericana is the priority for Nacional and it makes perfect sense (by winning the Apertura they’ve already qualified for the Copa Libertadores in 2014). Marco Prieto will get a start up front with Caceres Cañete just behind him. In midfield Derlis Orué is set to retun from the wilderness having pulled off his very own Peter Odemwingie faux pas and actually signed for Luque while still under contract.

Sol de América have Cecilio Dominguez of the Paraguay U20s up front and his service will be provided by Diego Chamorro who has a sweet left foot and will be on set pieces. Two defenders are back from suspension, Bruno Valdez and Ricardo Martinez will slot in at right back and centre back respectively. The side are full of goals having managed 30 in the Apertura but they also conceded 34 the third worst record in the league. With that in mind it could be difficult to stop even a weakened Nacional from finding the net.

Prediction: 1-1

Best Bet: Don’t see enough in this current Sol side to convince me they’ll beat the champions, so BTTS seems a better call

Nacional XI (confirmed): Oscar Aguero; Juan Arguello, Raúl Piris, Fabián Balbuena, Marcos Miers; Carlos Ruiz Peralta, Derlis Orué, Gustavo Cristaldo, Benjamin Pedrozo; César Cáceres Cañete, Marco Prieto
