Guaraní vs General Díaz
Defensores del Chaco, Asunción
16/08/2013; 18:30 (23:30 BST)
TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)
Guaraní have had plenty of managerial upheaval this year and haven’t won so far in the Clausura but they still find themselves with plenty to play for. The Apertura vice-champions are in the hunt with the “Big 3” for a spot in next year’s Copa Libertadores and they are still in the Copa Sudamericana with a huge game against Atletico Nacional next week. General Díaz have another priority, a good Apertura means they are well clear of the relegation zone for now but they know every point is vital.
Fernando Jubero knows the value of confidence and as such the Spanish interim manager will play a strong side today hoping for a victory to boost morale ahead of the visit from Medellín of the Colombians in the cup. Federico Santander is the main man up front partnering Derlis Gonzalez. One of General Díaz´s strong points is set pieces but Luis Cabral and Julio César Cáceres are adept in the air and should be equal to anything thrown at them aerially.
General Díaz are no longer a surprise package and everybody knows they will bring a ultra-pressing and physical strategy to Sajonia this evening. Look out for Antonio Bareiro and Cristian Sosa in midfield who offer a bit more panaché while goalscoring is as likely to come from centreback Lidio Benítez as it is from striker Luis Ovelar.
Best Bet: General Díaz keep it tight while Guaraní sometimes struggle to score so not so convinced by goals, think a Guaraní win seems good value at almost evens
