Nacional vs Olimpia
Defensores del Chaco, Asunción
18/08/2013; 17:00 (22:00 BST)
TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)
Olimpia bounced back from their defeat to Libertad with an excellent victory over Capiatá last week and a win today will put them just a point behind Cerro Porteño with the superclásico a week away. Nacional are suffering in the league having taken two points from a possible nine, although they have bigger fish to fry next week with a game against LDU Loja in the Copa Sudamericana.
Gustavo Morinigo isn’t expected to rest too many players, he is of the view that the team need a win to boost morale and as such players like Jorge Achucarro, Marcos Melgarejo and Marcos Riveros should all feature. They are now nine games without tasting victory, in many respects this is Morinigo’s biggest test since becoming a coach. He can take heart from the fact that Nacional have won the last three games against Olimpia scoring at least three goals in each of those games.
The return to full fitness of Juan Manuel Salgueiro, who made his first start of the new season against Capiatá, is vital in the club’s chances of winning the league. He scored the opening two last week and could well find himself on the scoresheet today. One player who misses out is Herminio Miranda who is technically still a Nacional player and therefore can’t play against his parent club. Kike Meza will step into his shoes in the back three today. Wilson Pittoni is a doubt having put in a sterling 60 minute shift for the albirroja against Germany on Wednesday .
Best Bet: Have been consistently backing Olimpia so far and no change today, they’ve got a strong side and Nacional have other distractions – Olimpia win
