Libertad vs Mineros
Nicolas Leóz, Asunción
21/08/2013; 19:15 (00:15 BST)
Preliminary Round, 1st Leg
TV: Fox Sports (Latin America)
A chance for Libertad to get into the last 16 for only the third time in nine attempts, this is their first tie against Venezuela opposition in the Sudamericana. Mineros come into this tie having overcome Ecuadorean giants Barcelona of Guayaquil in the previous round.
The key man to date has been Brian Montenegro who has found the net on three occassions already this season, the young left-footed striker has impressive technique and finds space well with his good movement. He´ll play up front with another youngster Jorge Recalde. The leaky defence we saw last year seems to be a thing of the past, just one goal conceded this season a total of 442 minutes of playing time has passed since then. The experience of Pedro Benítez at centreback ahs been crucial.
We saw Mineros in last year’s competition where they played Cerro Porteño and were roundly thrashed on their trip to Asunción. At present the team are on very good form having won their previous three matches and you have to go back to a game in May against Deportivo Lara to find their last competitive defeat. Up front they have Richard Blanco who was part of the O´Higgins side that won the Chilean Apertura last year. Alejandro Guerra is still in midfield, he scored against Cerro Porteño last year and is likely to be the pivotal person in midfield.
Libertad XI (probable): Rodrigo Muñoz; Jorge Moreira, Pedro Benítez, Gustavo Gómez, Gustavo Mencia; Claudio Vargas, Sergio Aquino, Osmar Molinas, Miguel Samudio; Brian Montenegro, Jorge Recalde
Mineros XI (probable): Tito Rojas; Luis Vallenilla, Julian Hurtado, Andrés Rouga, Walter Aguilar, Edgar Jimenez, Rafael Acosta, Alejandro Guerra, Ricardo David Paéz, Orlando Cordero, Richard Blanco
Selected Odds: Libertad win 1.5, Draw 4.5, Mineros win 8.8, 2-0 home win 6.8, Under 2.5 goals 1.9
Best Bet: Going big on the Libertad win
