Copa Sudamericana 2013: Liga de Loja vs Nacional preview

Liga de Loja vs Nacional

2nd Preliminary Round, 1st Leg

It is a return to the altitude for the Academia following that massive result in La Paz (a 1-1 draw) that earned them a place in this round of the Copa Sudamericana. The city of Loja in the south of Ecuador is only 2,060 metres above sea level so it shouldn’t affect the players too greatly as Nacional seek a place in the last 16.

The big news is that Nacional are considering a switch to three at the back to flood the midfield and make it difficult for Loja to keep the ball. The idea being that Orué and Torales join Riveros in a strong central midfield with Marcos Melgarejo given a free role behind a single striker. It is high time Morinigo tries something, Nacional are winless having drawn five of their six games this season.

LDU Loja are on similar form, they’ve drawn their previous three games 1-1 and have also drawn three of their previous four Copa Sudamericana ties. They are strong at home in this competition but in a strange conicidence the only team to have won here are Nacional (admittedly of Montevideo not Asuncion). Paraguayan Oscar Ayala is likely to start in defence, the real man to watch is 19-year-old Johnny Uchuari who I remember well from the Sudamericano at the start of the year, he is an exciting player at the heart of a young midfield.

Nacional XI (probable): Ignacio Don; Raul Piris, Fabián Balbuena, Leonardo Cáceres, Ramón Coronel, Marcos Miers; Derlis Orué, Marcos Riveros, Silvio Torales, Marcos Melgarejo; Gustavo Cristaldo

Liga de Loja XI (probable): Luis Fernandez; Robert Arboleda,Oscar Ayala, Julio Ayovi, Armando Gómez; Erick Castillo,Robinson Requene, Johnny Uchuari, Dixon Arroyo; Fabio Renato ,Santiago Barboza

Prediction: 1-1

Selected Odds: Liga de Loja win 2.12, Draw 3.45, Nacional win 4.0, 1-1 draw 7.2, Under 2.5 goals 1.82

Best Bet: Has to be a draw the form these two are on! Under 2.5 goals is my bet
