Guaraní vs Luque
Dos Bocas, Asunción
23/08/2013; 18:30 (23:30 BST)
TV: Unicanal (Paraguay)
Two teams who have lost their previous three games without scoring a goal come face to face in Dos Bocas tonight with very different problems. Guarani were runners-up in the Apertura with a good shot at the Copa Libertadores via the accumulative points table, now bottom of the Clausura that possibility is slipping from their grasp. Luque are in the relegation zone and are in a direct battle with Cerro de Franco to stay up.
Guaraní sacked their coach after three straight draws, under the iterim coach they’ve suffered three consecutive defeats following a debut win, things are not looking good for the aborigen. They have gone 270 minutes without scoring which is incredible considering the attacking talent available – Federico Santander, Derlis Gonzalez and Rodrigo Teixeira all have what it takes to score bundles of goals at this level.
Luque are struggling following a decent start, like Guaraní the auriazul haven’t found the net recently (324 minutes of game time) and have just one cleansheet in five. Solalinde is likely to make changes today to his side with veterans like Denis Caniza, Diego Ciz and Rodrigo López mixing it with youngsters such as teenager Derlis Alegre and Crisitan Aguada.
Incredibly Luque have won this fixture just once in the previous 18 meetings!
Best Bet: My guess is a low scorer between two teams struggling to find the net, Guaraní should be favourites with their head-to-head record and home form but their Copa Sudamericana tie could be a leveller – Under 2.5 goals for me
Guaraní XI (probable): Alfredo Aguilar; Eduardo Filippini, Luis Cabral, Julio César Cáceres, Edgar Aranda; Luis de la Cruz, Jorge Mendoza, Miguel Paniagua, Ivan Gonzalez Ferreira; Federico Santander, Rodrigo Teixeira
Luque XI (probable): Ever Caballero; José Báez, Denis Caniza, Miguel Almirón, Diego Ciz; Reinaldo Ocampo, Matias Rivera, Pedro Vera, Cristian Aguada; Derlis Alegre, Rodrigo López
