A comfortable win for Paraguay against a Guatemala team missing their ‘stars’ means Gerardo Pelusso goes into 2013 on the back of two consecutive victories. There is not much to take from friendlies of this nature except to take solace that however bad Paraguay are you can always rely on the tried and trusted ‘Centro, Cabeza, Gol’ (Cross, Head, Goal) with all three goals coming from a set piece.

Admittedly Luis Caballero’s opener was actually his right boot, Julio Dos Santos’ corner to the near post was well met by the Krylya Sovetov striker making his first start under Pelusso. The Albirroja added two more in the second half both from Pablo Aguilar’s head following Víctor Ayala freekicks, to date there have been just 2 goals from open play in Pelusso’s six matches in charge.

Between the two Aguilar headers there was also a headed goal for the visitors, Minor López ensured Pelusso has now conceded more goals (eleven) in 6 games than Chiqui Arce allowed in his 12 matches in charge.
